If you haven't tried yoga before, or if you have tried yoga but are new at YOGAMUDRA, you will get a short introduction to our yoga school and classes on this page.
If you have some questions and/or feel insecure about what class(es) to join - if you would like some personal advise - feel free to call us.
Who are we?
Bodil and Peter started YOGAMUDRA in January 2003. We make a couple both privately and professionally. Our interest in meditation and yoga started out in the early 1990'ies, when yoga was still very much in its "infancy" in Copenhagen and options were quite few. For some years we enjoyed attending classes at Scandinavian School of Yoga and Meditation in Købmagergade, and Peter took part in their 3-month retreat in Håå (Sweden) in 1996. But it wasn't until we met first Iyengar yoga and then Power yoga in the local gym a couple of years later that our love for yoga was complete - oh, what a magical combination of moving and breathing, breaking a sweat, and afterwards feeling that deep, inner peace! :-) Power yoga led us to Astanga vinyasa yoga (its origin), which we practiced daily for years and have taught since 2001, and we think that this style of yoga has a lot to offer to people with an interest in yoga, beginners and more experienced students alike. However, curiosity, openness, critical thinking, and commitment drive our approach to yoga and we love to try out other styles of yoga and broaden our minds. Therefore, YOGAMUDRA is evolving all the time and new yoga and movement styles are added to the palette at the studio. Plus, we must not forget to mention our three beautiful children, that have offered plenty of opportunity to practice Pregnancy yoga, Yoga for birth, and Mum & baby yoga, and Bodil has trained to become a doula, too.
Of course, we cannot do all of this by ourselves! So we have hand-picked a fantastic and inspiring team of teachers that share our curious approach to yoga. We all look forward to welcome you in class!
What styles of yoga do we offer classes in - and where can you begin?
Regardless of which yoga style(s) you choose, you will be moving towards a strong and flexible body, a calm and open mind and great inner well-being.
Read about yoga and pregnancy here, before you sign up.
What does it cost?
Our memberships include clip cards, subscription memberships, and yoga passes for an unlimited number of drop-in classes. Prices are set so that the more you practice, and the longer period of time you commit for, the less you pay per class. We recommend that you practice 2 times per week or more if time allows. Then you will experience progress and that it is fun to practice, not just demanding or tiring. Generally speaking it is better to practice a little often than a lot once in a while. Regularity is essential.
You can also pay per drop-in class, but obviously that is more expensive than with a little commitment to come to more classes...
On the website you can pay with various credit cards (Dankort, Visa/Dankort, Visa and MasterCard); in the shala you can also pay with cash. Please notice that subscription membership can only be bought online via Prices and must always be paid using a credit card (no cash payment!).
Where do you find us?
Our yoga studio is located in inner Oesterbro, Ryesgade 106 2nd floor, DK-2100 Copenhagen. View a map and find your way here. Our office and retreat studio is located in Gadevang in Gribskov (one of the largest woods in Denmark), Hovmosevej 17, DK-3400 Hilleroed.
What should you bring?
You need a 'sticky' yoga mat. If you have one you can bring it. Otherwise, you can borrow (for free) or buy a high quality yoga mat at the shala. Have a look here or in the yoga shala.
It is most comfortable to practice in clothes that is not too loose but flexible. You might also want to bring a towel for sweat or if you want to take a shower after the class.
Also, take a look at the other good advice before and after yoga.
