Class description, Yin

Yin yoga is a quiet, meditative practice where you slowly get into supine or seated postures that are typically held for 3-5 minutes with as little muscle activity as possible. This affects the connective tissue and the joints, increasing flexibility and dissolving blockages in the energy system of the body, the meridians. According to traditional Chinese medicine the life energy "Ch'i" flows in these meridians and if they are blocked imbalances will appear in the body.

In Yin yoga we work with the body at several levels: both the physical body and the energy body as well as with thoughts and feelings. You may feel more vulnerable during a Yin yoga practice but afterwards you often feel strengthened and well balanced.

Class description, Yin/Restorative

Restorative yoga aims to create calmness in the body and mind through postures that dampen the nervous system and provide maximum support for relaxation. The postures are typically supported by cushions, blankets, etc. and lasts for a long time, often between 10 and 20 minutes. Here you can achieve a deep, nutritious rest and an inner presence, often experienced as both calming and refreshing and as a free space where you are invited to "listen inwardly" and feel yourself.

When Yin Yoga and Restorative Yoga are combined, you meet a soothing sequence of simple postures that allow release of unnecessary tension and is freeing energy in body and mind.
Yin yoga and Restorative yoga are also perfect complements to the more dynamic yang yoga forms, such as Astanga vinyasa yoga.

Class description, Yin/Yang

This class will give you an opportunity to warm your body up and raise your heart rate whilst learning the techniques of a good sun salutations sequence to begin with (approx. 30 minutes). You will then move on to some Yin based long hold asanas cf. above with a special target and create space in the hips and shoulders area (approx. 45 minutes). We will end with a long relaxing pose, savasana, to give the body an opportunity to enjoy the benefits of the practice.
