The deeper dimensions of yoga: Annual workshop with Michael Stone
Friday evening talk & workshop - join for 2, 3, or 5 days
Time: 5-10 October 2012
Place: Yogamudra shala, Strandgade 36 D 2nd floor, DK-1401 Copenhagen (map)
"Michael is one of the rare teachers that can weave together yoga postures, deep philosophical inquiry and daily life, and also explore aspects of yoga that are rarely taught and rarely understood. True to tradition and very contemporary, he teaches a true transformation of mind, body and heart," says Richard Freeman, senior Ashtanga yoga teacher.
Note: Spaces are limited and distributed on a 'first come, first served' basis! All classes are taught in English.

About the course
The workshop is an opportunity to deepen an established yoga practice or mature one's commitment to the 8 limbs of the yoga path. This in-depth course will also provide creative tools and focused study for those who teach yoga.
We will alternate between physical practice and study, silence and discussion, much like being in both a temple and a college classroom at the same time.
Workshop schedule
Evening talk - Friday, 5 October 2012
-
17:30-20:00 Yoga & forgiveness
Join yoga teacher, Buddhist teacher and psychotherapist Michael Stone for an evening talk on yoga teachings for forgiveness.
The inner work of yoga has to do with letting go. Letting go in action is forgiveness. Yoga teaches us to open our hearts right to the core. We all have the capacity to open to goodness and also, to judge and criticize. Michael will tie together what happens on our yoga mat, with the possibility of forgiving ourselves and others as part of our path.
If possible bring a cushion or blanket to sit on. This will be a talk accessible for people of all backgrounds, with practice experience or not.
Workshop - Saturday to Wednesday, 6-10 October 2012
-
07:30-10:00 Asana practice
Morning asana: Going deep into standing postures, twists and inversions, we will look deeply at the role of breathing and attention in undoing habitual patterns in the body, mind and nervous system. The anatomy of yoga breathing and bandhas (inner bonds) in yoga postures will allow us to look at alignment, core strength and how to work with your mind.
-
10:30-12:00 Meditation with instruction
-
13:30-15:30 Chant and study Yoga Sutra & Dogen
Students should bring a meditation cushion to class.
Suggested reading if you want to prepare yourself for the workshop (i.e. not compulsory): The Yoga-Sutra of Patanjali (you can buy the book in the shala or download from Arlingtoncenter.org) and if time allows Michael's books: The inner tradition of yoga - A guide to yoga philosophy for the contemporary practitioner (Shambhala Publications, 2008), Yoga for a world out of balance - Teachings on ethics and social action (Shambhala Publications, 2009), Freeing the body, freeing the mind - Writings on the connections between yoga and Buddhism (Shambhala Publications, 2010), and his new release Awake in the world - Teachings from yoga and Buddhism for living an engaged life (Shambhala Publications, 2011).

Participants
Everybody with basic knowledge of yoga and interest in learning more about body and mind can attend the workshop.
If you attend the weekend and/or weekday workshop the talk Friday evening is included (you can also choose not to join the talk when you register). Also, if you have a friend who would like to come to this talk, bring him/her along. He/she need not practice asana but is probably interested in yoga philosophy - or just curious.
