New at YOGAMUDRA

If you haven't tried yoga before, or if you have tried yoga but are new at YOGAMUDRA, you can get a short introduction to our yoga school and classes on this page.

Who are we?

Yogamudra was started by Bodil and Peter in March 2004. We make a couple both privately and professionally and we would love to share our passion for yoga with you! Our approach to yoga is driven by curiosity, openness and commitment. We have practiced and taught Ashtanga vinyasa yoga for a number of years, and we find that this form of yoga has a lot to offer to people with an interest in yoga - at all levels. However, we are not afraid to try out other forms of yoga and broaden our minds. In addition, three beautiful children have offered the opportunity to practice Pregnancy yoga and Mum & baby yoga. We are continuously seeking to learn from various senior yoga teachers to deepen our practice - the foundation of our teachings. We have put together a fantastic and inspiring team of teachers. And last but not least, we learn a lot from our students!

What forms of yoga to we offer classes in?

We offer classes in Ashtanga vinyasa yoga, a dynamic form of yoga where movement and breathing is co-ordinated through a set sequence of postures - and a magical, meditative flow may arise. Co-ordination of movement and breath is also the key in Vinyasa yoga where the sequences of postures are more free. In addition, we offer classes in Hatha yoga where the physical part of the practice is softer than in Ashtanga vinyasa yoga; in Iyengar yoga where correct alignment of the body is in focus; plus Yoga for runnersPregnancy yoga and Mum & baby yoga.

In all the yoga styles the muscles of the body is stretched and strengthened. Yoga will give you a strong and flexible body, a calm and open mind and great inner well-being.

We offer instructions in English in all Ashtanga Mysore classes when need be plus in some Guided classes. Look for * in the schedule.

What classes can beginners join?

We recommend that complete beginners that would like to learn Ashtanga vinyasa yoga attend our intro course, which includes three 75-minute classes. Here we introduce the basic techniques (ujjayi breath, vinyasa movement, etc.), sun salutation A ad B, plus a selection of standing and finishing postures. An intro course will give you a solid understanding and the best foundation for further practice in Guided and Mysore classes. Focus on technique. Pre-registration is required.

To sign up, click on log in in the menu above, create a profile and/or log in, then go to prices. If you buy a subscription, 1-year yogapass, or clip card right away the intro course is free! Otherwise, you book/buy the intro course that you would like to attend. Your space is secured when we have received your payment. We give no refund for days where you don't show up for class.

After an intro course you can continue practice in our Ashtanga Guided and Ashtanga Mysore classes. See schedule and class types.

Beginners with prior knowledge of ujjayi breath and vinyasa movement (from classes elsewhere) may join our Ashtanga Guided and/or Vinyasa classes. Contact us if you have questions about our different class types.

Beginners can also join Hatha yoga, Iyengar yoga, and Yoga for runners classes. No intro course needed for those.

What does it cost?

An intro course (three 75-minute classes) costs 225 dkk. incl. rental of a yoga mat. If you buy a subscription, 1-year yogapass, or clip card no later than the last class of the course, we refund your full payment of 225 dkk. If you buy a subscription, 1-year yogapass, or clip card before the intro course begins, it is free! Remember to pre-register.

Our memberships include clip cards and cards for an unlimited number of 'drop in' classes, i.e. Ashtanga Guided, Ashtanga Mysore, Vinyasa, Hatha, Hatha & meditation, Iyengar, and Yoga for runners. Prices are set so that the more you practice, and the longer period of time you commit for, the less you pay per class. We recommend that you practice 2 or more times per week. Then you will experience progress and that it is fun to practice, not just demanding or tiring. Generally speaking it is better to practice less often than a lot once in a while. Regularity is essential.

You can also pay per class in Ashtanga Guided, Ashtanga Mysore, Vinyasa, Hatha, Hatha & meditation, Iyengar, and Yoga for runners classes. This will not qualify for the intro course refund.

On the website you can pay with various credit cards (Dankort, Visa/Dankort, eDankort, Visa and MasterCard); in the shala you can also pay with cash or cheque.

Where do you find us?

We have two yoga studios in Copenhagen, one in Christianshavn and one in Oesterbro. Addresses are Strandgade 36 D 2nd floor, DK-1401 Copenhagen and Ryesgade 106 2nd floor, DK-2100 Copenhagen. View a map and find your way here.

With a membership you can join classes as you wish in both studios.

What should you bring?

You need a 'sticky' yoga mat. If you have one you can bring it. Otherwise, you can rent or buy a yoga mat at the shala. The price varies depending on quality.

It is most comfortable to practice in clothes that is not too loose but flexible. You might also want to bring a towel for sweat or if you want to take a shower after the class.

Also, take a look at the other good advice before and after yoga.
